Abstract

Since the early 1990s, scientists worldwide have raised concerns about the ecological environmental and indigenous cultural degradation caused by tourism development that focuses solely on economic gains. In response, sustainable tourism has emerged as a solution to mitigate negative impacts, ensuring balanced and long-term growth. Various environmentally and culturally conscious tourism models, including ecotourism, cultural tourism, craft village tourism, etc., have been developed, fostering a responsible tourism development orientation and promoting a sustainable approach to tourism. Using the bibliometric analysis, this study focuses on presenting data and proposing possible research directions on the development of sustainable tourism in craft villages. The study data were sourced from journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters in the Scopus database, covering the period from 2011 to August 2024. The analytical tools, including VOSviewer and Excel, were utilized to identify trends and research gaps in this field. The study also emphasizes the need for further investigations into the long-term impacts of sustainable tourism on the socio-economic development and preservation of distinctive cultural values in craft villages.
