Developing science and technology in the process of international integration in Vietnam today

Abstract

World integration brings Vietnam development opportunities but also contains many challenges. Taking advantage of opportunities brought by international integration helps Vietnam promote the country's potential and strengths. Especially, Vietnam determines the important role of science and technology and considers them as a spearhead and lever for sustainable development. Developing science and technology helps Vietnam approach and keep up with the world's advanced levels, raise labor productivity, improve technical infrastructure, and enhance the country's scientific and technological potentials. In addition to the achieved achievements, scientific and technological activities in Vietnam, especially in the process of international integration still have certain limitations which are not commensurate with our development potential, and even lagging behind a lot in comparison with other countries in our region as well as developed countries in the world. In this article, the author focuses on an overview of international integration, the process of developing awareness of the Communist Party of Vietnam on international integration and the role of science and technology in Vietnam’s international integration. The author puts emphasis on a number of guidelines and policies of the Party and policies of the State of Vietnam on the development of science and technology in the process of international integration. The author also evaluates the main achievements and limitations in the development of science and technology during Vietnam’s international integration process over the past time, thereby proposing solutions to contribute to the development of science and technology in the coming eras of our international integration process.
