Abstract
As a country in the Southeast Asian region, during the period of renovation, Vietnam has consistently attached great importance to its relations with neighboring nations. Overcoming a long journey filled with challenges and uncertainties, Vietnam's relations with Southeast Asian countries have continued to evolve and have achieved significant milestones. Chief among these achievements is the common aspiration to maintain peace and stability, which has allowed the nation to focus on nation-building and development. However, alongside these notable successes, due to various objective and subjective factors, cooperation between Vietnam and regional countries has not always met the desired expectations. Recognizing this reality, Vietnam has, for many years, exerted efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, consistently working to promote amicable relations and cooperation with ASEAN countries and among ASEAN member states, both in breadth and depth. As Vietnam continues to navigate its foreign relations in a context of global dynamics and changes, a deep understanding of the central role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in shaping foreign activities with ASEAN becomes paramount. This article seeks to contribute to a broader discourse on diplomacy in regional cooperation, guided by the Party's leadership, providing comprehensive insights into the mechanisms and strategies Vietnam employs to achieve its goals of peace, stability, cooperation, and development within the ASEAN community during the renovation era. Particularly, it focuses on the period when Vietnam accelerated industrialization, modernization, and international integration. Furthermore, this article aims to assess the achievements and limitations of the entire aforementioned process, with the intention of proposing solutions to enhance the effectiveness of Vietnam's foreign relations with ASEAN countries in the future.
